Beards have been a sign of masculinity throughout history. From prehistoric times, Spartans, to 1800s, every bad ass was wearing a manly beard. Beards are supposed to be on our faces. Sadly, not everyone can boast with a full, good looking bunch of facial hair. Can this issue be solved? Enter the Minoxidil Beard.
In my experience, the vast majority of guys look much better with a beard than cleanly shaven. Be it a short 3-day stubble or a lengthy beard, it just adds a bit of confidence, aggressively and seriousness to the overall look.
Some guys, of course, have a great, pronounced jawline that looks great even without a beard, and they should consider themselves lucky. In my country, only a few guys have the jaw to walk beardless, but also only a few guys have full coverage to rock a beard.

how to enhance beard growth?
Chances are, you are 100% able to optimise beard growth. This may sound like a bullshit ad for magical oil product that costs 1000 dollars. Believe me, that’s not the case. Basically, everyone has some number of hair follicles, which is given by genetics. As far as we know, you can not manipulate this number.
Interesting thing is that usually, not all follicles are active for some reason. You might think you are doomed because of a small number of follicles, while, in fact, only 1/3 of them is active and that’s the reason you have a patchy beard. Unfortunately, there is currently no way to find how many follicles you have, so the best bet is to TRY minoxidil for at least three months.
Another indirect way of increasing beard growth is testosterone optimization. Testosterone is known for causing hair growth. When natural bodybuilders forego first steroid cycle (with testosterone), they usually notice increased hair growth. This actually makes good sense, testosterone is what differs a man from a woman. Bottom line is that increasing testosterone indirectly causes more hair growth.
Testosterone boosting had already been covered by me, check the article out. Basics are – lift heavy, eat well, sleep well, do not overtrain.

Minoxidil beard solution
Minox is a widely used, over the counter (available without a prescription) hair loss drug. It stimulates those hair follicles and makes them grow hair. Only approved usage is on the scalp of the head. While many people successfully tried and used minoxidil for beard growth, it is not FDA approved, you are responsible for your actions. You should know there are no clinical trials done with using minoxidil on a man’s face. That said, side effects are usually mild and harmless.
When the drug itself was used as a blood pressure medication, guys and girls who had used it noticed increased hair growth. Chest, arm, leg hair and even facial hair. Companies noticed that too and the Minoxidil for hair growth was born.
Possible side effects
Chances you won’t experience any side effect. Ill provide the whole list and highlight side effects that I actually had.
- Headache – very rare
- Water retention – I didn’t notice
- Dry skin – this one is quite remarkable. Use a good moisturizer and you should be good.
- Trouble with sleep – very rare
- Temporary hair shedding – Many people talk about this, I actually didn’t notice any shedding.
That’s it. Oh, another side effect is increased hair growth. Note that the increased hair growth applies for whole body, so you might notice some ear (white) hair, increased eyebrow hairs (and the need to pluck to avoid unibrow) and maybe few hairs here and there.
Do not be afraid of shedding. Even if you experience shedding, keep in mind that shedding is NOT losing hair. The new hair pushes the old hair to have room for growth. Do not stress about the possible side effects, try minox yourself, you will see. No big deal with canceling treatment, right.
Side effect don’t scare you? Great.
How to apply minoxidil
- wash your face carefully and thoroughly. Plain water will do, occasional face soap is good too.
- measure approximately 1ml of minoxidil, if you have a spray version, it about 10 sprays.
- slowly rub the minoxidil into your skin with a little bit of pressure, either with bare hands or rubber glove. I personally use bare hand without any problems so far
- wash your hands carefully.
Applying minoxidil is not that hard task to do, so you need not worry about doing it wrong. After applying minoxidil, try to let it do its magic for at least three to four hours before showering or washing face. After those hours, use moisturizer to prevent dryness/flakiness of skin. Do not lick the minoxidil of your face, it tastes like shit. Be careful around pets, as some users reported that a cat licking minoxidil from your face is NOT a good idea.
For how long I need to keep using minoxidil?
This process takes time. First noticeable results should come after about two to three months in. This is not set in a stone. It might take just one month or it may take a good year to see the results. Minoxidil is cheap (10-20 dollars a bottle, which lasts you for about a month or two), so best bet is to just keep using it for a year before making the decision whether it works or not.
Questions and answers
Where should I buy it?
Any 5% minoxidil will do just fine. Buy it either from Amazon or some local store. The most known brand is rogaine, which is also kind of pricey. Kirkland is usually the cheapest and works just as well as rogaine.
How many times should I use it per day?
Anywhere from 1 to 2 times a day is sweet. Always use one milliliter, so maximum would be two milliliters per day. Be sure to leave time space between applications (ideal is one application morning, another evening)
Can I shave or trim while using minoxidil?
Do not worry, you CAN shave and trim your beard while being on the juice. Make sure, however, to use a sharp blade, so it won’t pull the new hairs out.
Do I need to use it for whole life?
Fortunately, not. After the hair become terminal (permanent), you can stop using minoxidil and hairs will remain. Good thing is to stop slowly, like one week applying just once a day, then once every three days and taper off to zero applications a day.
Nothing left to say about minoxidil. Do you use it? Have you had success with minox? Tell us your story in comments.
